Applique wall hanging, 'Busy City Market'

Itinerant vendors line the street in front of shops specializing in clothing, fabrics, wool and flowers. In the background, skyscrapers reveal another face of contemporary Peru. "This is a city market, " Mar�a Uyauri says. "This is a daily reality in Peru." She creates this beautiful wall hanging in intricate arpiller�a � embroidered appliqu�s of fabric cutouts hand-stitched to a background of cotton. Crafted in three dimensions, each figure is lavishly embroidered. A display rod can slip through an opening at the top.
