South Africa - Into The Wild

Day 1     Arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. Here you will be met by your host/guide. Transfer to local Bed and Breakfast (B&B) to rest and freshen up.

Afternoon outing to Lesedi Cultural Village followed by an African meal.

Return to B&B. Socialize, play pool, swim (dependant of season), sit by the open fire or watch local TV.

Day 2     Early departure travelling through scenic Mpumalanga. Breakfast in Dullstroom, explore Pilgrims Rest, on through the Blyde River Canyon via God’s Window, the Berlin Falls and Bourke's Luck Potholes, to name but a few of the attractions. Through the JG Strijdom Tunnels on to Hoedspruit and finally stopping at Moholoholo for the night.

Enjoy an evening meal around the camp fire and listen to the sounds of the African bush and wild animals.

Day 3     Tour Moholoholo’s Animal Rehab Centre. Then depart for the Kruger National Park, entry through the Orpen Gate headed up to Satara Camp. Travel through the different areas (biomes) offers varied scenery, fauna and flora.

Dine at the Satara Camp restaurant.

Day 4     Early start to spot the game – some of which can be quite elusive. Brunch en-route to Skukuza Rest Camp.

Enjoy the cool waters of the swimming pool after a long hot day’s game viewing.

Dinner at the restaurant looking over the Sabi River.

Day 5     Another early start (early morning and late afternoon are the best times to spot the game), on safari to Lower Sabi Rest Camp.

Optional but highly recommended is a night game drive – an opportunity to spot the nocturnal animals of the African Plains.

Day 6     Last day in the Kruger National Park, exit via the Crocodile Bridge Gate. Scenic drive back to Gauteng.

Back to the B&B. Dinner at the B&B.

Day 7     Tour Soweto with lunch at a local shebeen (tavern). Stroll through a squatter camp. See Nelson Mandela’s first house. Visit the Hector Peterson Memorial Museum to view the photographic history of the struggle against apartheid. Travel through Johannesburg CBD en-route to OR Tambo – either to fly to Cape Town or return to UK.
